Furyon Lost Salvation cd review

Furyon exploded onto the scene back in 2010 with the quite superb " Gravitas " cd and also gave Winger a good run for their money on the subsequent tour.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge in the last 5 years with personnel changes and illness all affecting the band but now at last Furyon are about to release their second album " Lost Salvation " on February 23 via Dream Records in the UK and Cargo Records for the rest of Europe. An international release date will be issued in due course.

I am very pleased to say that " Lost Salvation " builds on the merits of " Gravitas " and puts down a marker for all other bands to try and reach in 2015.

Led by the wonderful powerful but still melodic vocals of Matt Mitchell and the 2 new guys on guitar Luca Faraone and Tiago Rosado who produce a wall of taut muscular riffs. The rhythm team of Lee Farmery on drums and Alex "Nickel "Bowen on bass are the rock it is all built on and with original guitarist Chris Green (Rubicon Cross,Tyketto) adding his quality on riffs and also solos this is top drawer heavy rock. With returning producer Rick Beato(Shinedown,Fozzy)putting a sheen on it all and letting the music do the talking.

Opener " All That I Have " sets the standard with a huge riff and but also plenty of light and shade letting the riff hit hard when it crashes back in pre chorus and a layered vocal on the chorus before the first of many superb guitar solos. Not just a flurry of notes but a solo built to impress.

The title track ups the pace with some double bass drumming and a chopped stop start riff that leads into a huge chorus with Matt putting some real passion into his vocal. What I love about the music is the way they have a huge riff and rhythm section as the base but put a melodic guitar melody over the top. It isn't all about hitting hard. Great end section with all of the band contributing.

First single " Four Walls " is a head down rocker with a mid pace tempo leading into a huge chorus and again plenty of melody in the guitar layers.Matt's vocal range is tested as the song builds to the chorus and he pulls it off superbly.Chris Green's guitar solo continues on when it appears to slow and then more soloing over the the chorus towards the end of the song .Love it!

"Scapegoat" starts on a picked electric riff before the drums and guitar crash in with a rolling guitar riff as the song twists and turns on the riff and guitar melody before another huge melodic chorus over a crushing riff.It will go down a storm on the upcoming tour.Classy guitar solo too.

"Resurrect Me " is simply brilliant with another crushing riff and guitar melody solo start before another mid song riff and rhythm that will get heads banging live.A trademark Furyon groove rocker with a riff that kicks into the chorus.A short sharp flurried guitar solo before the band finish the song on a high with Matt's vocal line and Chris Green's guitar solo fighting for attention alongside each other.

"Left It With The Gods " has another rollocking riff that leads into the pre chorus and the chorus shines as Matt hits the high notes.

"Good Sky " is straight into the rhythm section and Lee on drums leading the way with a lengthy intro before the main squealed riff kicks in and Matt's tonsils take a battering. This song really shows how tight the band are with some superb interplay between drums, bass and guitar. The time off has made them so tight and the guitar solo over huge riff is a joy to hear.

" Dematerialize" has a quiet guitar intro before the band crash in and more use of light and shade leads into a fast paced drum led pre chorus with  more guitar melody thrown onto the mix too. The guitar solo is broken down by the band changing rhythm on a couple of occasions but that only makes it even better.

" What You Need " has a vocal and guitar intro on a song that starts slow but pre chorus explodes on a riff and vocal that will get crowds bouncing and horns thrown. A near feedback guitar solo leads back into the chorus.

"Wiseman " finishes the album in style with a fast paced rocker with a stop start riff and plenty of guitar melody over the huge riff. A dual guitar solo adds to the mix and leaves you pressing the play button again on a all killer no filler cd.

" Lost Salvation " is a fantastic return for the band and deserves to put them up there with the best and will be in many a year best of at the end of 2015.

The band hit the road in the UK with Fahran in support and I for one can't wait.
