Black Stone Cherry Birmingham Arena 11-12-18
Due to wonderful traffic and superb T shirts sellers ( after interrupting their chat have you got that in a large?no.That one? No.What have you got?!!!!) we got in for the last 4 songs of Monster Truck who got a rousing reception and I look forward to their headlining tour in April for new album True Rockers.
Not really ever got The Cadillac Three and after seeing them I still don't although the crowd were all on board.
Loved Black Stone Cherry since seeing their debut UK show at Hyde Park with Aerosmith in 2007 and they continue to grow with every passing album and tour.
A little concerned how the their live dvd was shot at the Genting arena to a near full house yet this was to a half arena set up.Hopefully too many pre xmas shows and a mid week date not helping.
Anyways the mass their had the following near 2 hour setlist.
Burnin’
Me and Mary Jane
Rain Wizard
Bad Habit
Like I Roll
My Last Breath
Cheaper to Drink Alone
Soulcreek
James Brown
Things My Father Said
Ain’t Nobody
In My Blood
Blind Man
Drum Solo
I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man
Lonely Train
Blame It on the Boom Boom
White Trash Millionaire
Family Tree
Encore:
Peace Is Free
With superb sound and huge screens this was the full arena experience and the band delivered as always.Chris Robertson was in fine form vocally and his guitar soloing was fluid and melodic.Ben Wells on guitar and Jon Lawhon on bass are as energetic as normal and John Fred Young on drums is a show in itself.Arms and hair flailing he is a powerhouse and celebrating his birthday he got a Birmingham welcome sung to him.
New song Burnin' was a great full throttle opener before Me And Mary Jane and then a crushingly heavy Rain Wizard threatened to take the roof off.
Like I Roll was superb with great crowd singing and Chris's great vocal and melodic guitar solo.
Cheaper To Drink Alone and Hoochie Coochie Man both were over played and dipped the show but were soon forgotten.
Things My Father Said after the recent passing of my dad had me in floods of tears as the emotion of the song took hold and Chris's vocal was stunning.
Blind Man was sung with gusto by all and the 1-2-3 of Lonely Train,Boom Boom and White Trash Millionaire were as good as anything I have seen in a very long time.
Closer Family Tree had Chris's extended guitar solo at it's core before a mainly acoustic Peace Is Free with Ben on guitar and Chris on vocals brought the house down.
Superb.
