Rival Sons - Leeds Academy - 28 March 2015

My interest in this band has been cultivated by an article and free CD in Classic Rock magazine and radio play on Planet Rock. This made me go out buy the brilliant Great Western Valkyrie CD and now at last a chance to see them live.

The intro music from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly set the scene before the band opened up with Electric Man – Wow this a band at the top of their game oozing confidence from every pore. There is more swagger than Jagger as we move into Good Luck and Play the Fool. Singer Jay Buchanan and guitarist Scott Holiday filled the stage with rock n roll star quality and poise by the bucket load as we moved into Secret Play, Manifest Destiny and Torture Play before an acoustic set that included Nava Play and a cover of Long as I Can See the Light Play.

We were soon back to the rocking full electric set and raced towards the encore with Rich and Poor, Belle Starr, Where I’ve Been  and Tell Me Something. The Leeds crowd roared for more and that is what they got in the shape of Open My Eyes, Pressure and Time and the wonderful Keep on Swinging.
One of my best gigs in a long time, this band are destine for great things.
