Forty years after Lancaster University’s Great Hall hosted its last rock show, the beloved venue roared back to life when Massive Wagons’ two sold-out hometown performances were recorded on 19th and 20th September 2025. The Great Hall, once graced by The Who, Black Sabbath and Queen, had stood silent for decades until the band returned to rock its stage. Their performance was praised by original promoter Barry Lucas, author of When Rock Went To College, and hailed by Classic Rock Magazine as “a band stepping up their league.”

The atmosphere was electric, and Massive Wagons knew this moment needed to be preserved. The live album captures the sense of fun the Wagons inspire when they get on stage and bash through their hits. And, given both shows sold out, it's a means of travelling back to that glorious moment even if you couldn't be there in person.

"We've been knocking around the idea of a live album for years now, but the time has never felt right," says guitarist Adam Thistlewaite. "In these Lancaster University Great Hall shows, we have a great story in bringing live music back to an iconic venue and our live shows have been taken to another level after the heavy touring of the last few years. We love making studio albums, but the live energy, the passion of the crowd, it's what we do it for ultimately, so this is going to be special."

Frontman Barry Mills adds: “We’ve wanted to capture the atmosphere of a Wagons gig for a long time. The crowd, the feel, the joy, this live album is something special.”

The release of Live At The Great Hall follows a triumphant few years for the band, who celebrated a #1 UK Rock Album and a #4 position in the Official UK Top 40 with their last studio album, Earth To Grace. Their relentless touring schedule has seen them share stages with Myles Kennedy,The Darkness, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Status Quo, as well as perform at major festivals including Download, Wacken, Grasspop and the Monsters Of Rock Cruise in America.

The Live album intimate shows will be on 27th and 28th March at the Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre, including a 3rd matinee show. These unique shows will feature live performances, conversations with special guests including original Great Hall promoter Barry Lucas, and an audience Q&A. Attendees will also receive an exclusive alternate-artwork signed CD sleeve, a commemorative lanyard, and a goodie bag. With only 60 tickets available at each show, these events offer a rare and personal experience with the band.

Massive Wagons have built their name on sweat, passion and pure rock’n’roll energy, and Live At The Great Hall captures them louder, harder, and prouder than ever before, returning rock to a legendary room and celebrating a landmark moment in their hometown’s musical history.
