Bywater Call Siouthampton The Brook 28-11-25
First up was Dan Patlansky who I have been fortunate to see many times but this time he is only accompanied by a loop station. He builds the layers of music and as he said he is only step away from disaster but his 25 minute set was a success. His vocals are excellent and his playing either riffs and solos are exemplary and Madison Lane his one hit as he calls it with 5 plays on Youtube goes down well and let's hope next time we get a full set.
This was my first time seeing Bywater Call a Canadian roots, rock, and soul band and for 1 hour and 45 minutes I was totally blown away by the 7 musicians on stage. Everyone plays their part and where do you get a saxophone solo on track one and a keyboard and trumpet face off by the third song played.

Meghan Parnell on vocals from her first note shows a real dynamic intent and she has a range that few can match full of soul, melody and the blues.
The 7 piece from Toronto also features the extraordinary talents of Dave Barnes (guitar, slide), Mike Meusel (bass), Bruce McCarthy (drums), John Kervin (keyboards), Julian Nalli (saxophone), and Stephen Dyte (trumpet).
Opener Hold Me Down showed off their improvisation skills and every recorded studio note is just a frame work for the live version with extended soloing and jamming.
As If has a chorus that is built for stadiums and a stunning version of Sunshine with Meghan leading us through the chorus and it made us forget the November weather outside.
Sweet Maria would have broken the band huge back in the day but we are all more than happy seeing the whites of their eyes when they are this good and another huge cheer as the song ends.
Dave Barnes on guitar shows through out the show his slide guitar prowess and it's not till set closer Everybody Knows he shows us his rock guitar soloing is top drawer.
For the encore of Stephen Stills Love The One Your With we see Dave and Dan Patlansky trading solos with Meghan stood side stage with a glass of wine enjoying the spectacle like we all did.
A stunning evenings entertainment from a band who are on the rise and I for one can't wait for their return.
