Laurence Jones Releases Second Single & Video “One Life” from Forthcoming Album “On My Own”

Following the success of the title track ‘On My Own’, described by Music News as a “Damn fine listen” and praised by Rock and Blues Muse as “a stripped back, beautiful track that reveals not just Jones’ compelling musical talents but a genuine spirit”, award – winning guitarist and songwriter Laurence Jones releases his second single “One Life” along with an accompanying music video.

The new single offers another glimpse into Jones’ most personal and introspective project to date, his first ever solo acoustic album. On My Own, is set for release on January 23rd, 2026. The album finds Jones returning to his roots, exploring deeply personal themes drawn from his ongoing battle with Crohn’s Disease.

“This is a song I wrote in a time of need,” Laurence shares. “It almost came to me for healing. A lot of this album is about my battles and challenges living with this invisible and life-threatening disease”

“One Life” captures both struggle and resilience, an internal dialogue between self-doubt and determination. “It’s about wanting to give up but having that fight inside you that says, ‘come on, you can do it” he explains. “The verse and chorus are like those two voices in your head,  the one that says you can’t, and the one that pushes you forward.”

Musically, “One Life” embraces a raw, rootsy blues sound inspired by Jones’ recent move to Nottingham and watching a performance from blues legend Seasick Steve. “After seeing Steve at Rough Trade and getting to meet him, I went home inspired by that swampy groove he brings to his music,” Laurence recalls. “I wanted that same swagger and feeling to come through.”

The track’s stripped back arrangement lets the space in the music take a play and the slide guitar take full control.
The track plays homage to traditional blues recordings, giving it an authentic feel.

The accompanying video, directed by Helen at Cuckoo Films, a longtime collaborator of Jones, adds an intimate visual to the song. Filmed close to Laurence’s Nottingham home during a period of ill health, the shoot became a personal and spontaneous experience.

“I was battling a bad flare-up at the time,” he reveals. “We ended up filming in Nottingham just up the street where I live, around my neighbourhood, The graveyard in the video shoot is at the top of my estate and I walk down the road and pass these surroundings every day when I’m home. The graveyard is not  a morbid place for me, my grandad would always ask me to take him to the grave to see my Gran when she passed, he would dress up in his suit and tell us stories about their life together and my grandad was so grateful for the life they shared together. He would say “you’ve got to live your life to the full, you only get one” and it inspired this song.”

The video also captures unexpected, heartfelt moments from locals dancing in their kitchens to a scene with white birds flying towards a church cross. “Nothing was planned, it all came together naturally,” Laurence says. “It’s one of the most memorable and enjoyable shoots I’ve ever done.”

“One Life” is the second single from his most personal project to date, his first ever solo acoustic album. On My Own due for release January 23rd, 2026, released on Laurence’s own label, RON RECORDS, in loving memory of his late grandad and best friend.

Laurence will take On My Own on the road with his Solo Tour 2026, kicking off January 23rd in London.
