Chantel McGregor ‘The Healing’

This is the first studio album of new material from Chantel McGregor since her 2015 album Lose Control. The Healing reveals a whole new side to Chantel McGregor in both a musical and emotional sense and marks the first time that Chantel has written material of an autobiographical nature. The new album features her regular band-mates Colin Sutton on bass and Thom Gardner on drums, a pair of players with whom she has developed a form of musical telekinesis. Where things depart from the norm is the presence of the two newcomers. Noted UK guitarist Oli Brown (The Dead Collective) assisted with the programming and is also a co-producer. Wayne Proctor, another member of The Dead Collective, handled production mixing and mastering. In another huge break with tradition, both Oli and Wayne were involved heavily in the song writing process. So how has the sound progressed in ten years? Well to this listener and fan there definitely a more sophisticated and polished sound to the production of this album, which still captures Chantel’s beautiful voice and wonderful guitar playing. The album consists of eight tracks, two of which have been available as single releases Broken Heated Liar and Stand on My Own. The longest track on the album is The Truth Will Out, at just under 7 minutes. This track highlights the different vibe of this album, but still contains a trademark soaring Chantel guitar solo at the end. The rockiest tracks track on the album are the opener I Will Breath and the lively and catchy Undercover, At just over three minutes the shortest track on the album and one for the live set I would think. There are some lovely vocal and guitar work on Tears and Echoes, with these tracks capturing the overall tone of the album so well. The title track The Healing builds from lovely gentle smooth start to heavier rift that takes the album to a conclusion. It is so great to hear new material again from Chantel, which I think all involved can be very proud of. Track Listing I will Breath Broken Hearted Liar Tears Standing on my Own Echoes Undercover The Truth Will Out The Healing.
